George Washington's secretary of the treasury, Alexander Hamilton, supported the idea of a strong central government. The political party he formed by became known as the Federalist Party. Thomas Jefferson, Washington's secretary of state, believed that a strong central government would quickly become as oppressive to its citizens as the British government had been to American colonists.
Even if you work for a large corporation that is rife with bureaucracy you know the reaction that you would receive if you presented your boss with a two thousand page proposal accompanied by a flow chart that looks like the Pelosi "flow chart". Listening to the chest beating in Washington about all the wonderful things they are doing for the American People it is easy to get excited. So many wonderful programs passed all for the benefit of the individual American. It makes you proud to look forward to what will become the New America.
